Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Launch Date
Qualcomm has confirmed that the chipset will be launched on the 15th of November during the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii. It is an annual event that the brand uses to reveal the latest flagship chipsets, so true to its tradition, we will see Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 during this summit. The Summit will be held from 15th to 17th November this year.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Specs
The specs have not been confirmed by Qualcomm, but some solid leaks reveal more about the design and the performance of the flagship chipset. Tipster Ice Universe reveals that the new SoC will address one major problem that its predecessor faced. The 8 Gen 1 phones lacked behind in terms of battery life. This seems to have been improved on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The post by Ice Universe claims that the upcoming flagship does a better job at managing its energy efficiency and this will increase the durability of the devices. Meanwhile, DigitalChatStation on Weibo claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will be curiously configured. It has the codename SM8550 (Kailua) and the description begins with the more standard elements like a 4nm process fabricated by TSMC and an Adreno 740 GPU. The cores are intriguing. The leakster claims that the Chipset will use 4 types of cores rather than the 3 found in Qualcomm’s chipsets in the past few years. There will be 1 Cortex-X3, 2 Cortex A-720, 2 Cortex A-710 and 3 Cortex-A510 cores. It boasts 25% better performance than its predecessor. Qualcomm is using a design that uses cores from both generations, which is also different. There is a possibility that Qualcomm wants to continue support for 32-bit apps. The X3 and A715 are 64-bit only, but the A710 and A510 include 32-bit support, so using these two will allow the chipset to have basic performance in 32-bit apps. It is an interesting move as both Arm and Google are keen for manufacturers and developers to make the switch to 64-bit something Apple already implemented in iOS and macOS a few years ago. This 1+2+2+3 arrangement is new and will improve the thermal performance of the flagship devices. Moreover, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to give sky-high clock speeds as well. Digital ChatStation claims that the new chipset will give speeds of 3.4 to 3.5GHz.
Smartphones that will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
Since the chipset has not been announced yet, there is no official list of names of smartphones that will use this chipset. However, there are certain speculations that are doing the rounds. Xiaomi has been one such brand that launches the 1st smartphones with the newest chipsets, like Xiaomi 12 range with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Latest reports claim that the brand will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for their Xiaomi 13 range. Vivo X90 Series is also expected to feature this chipset. DigitalChatStation claims that the OnePlus 11 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series might also be powered by the Gen 2 processor. iQOO is also planning to power its iQOO 11 Series with this chipset. More names will keep popping up as the chipset gets launched in November.
